Jacob Banks - The Monologue EP

I first heard of Jacob Banks whilst listening to BBC1xtra, which played his version of Rihanna's Stay and Kendrick Lamar's Don't Kill My Vibe (can be found here). Sounds so soulful, don't you agree? The two songs blend together so seamlessly, that it makes you stop in your tracks and just listen. I know that sounds quite cliché (since we evidently listen to music), but there are few songs which makes you want to listen to the actual lyrics, feel the emotions jump through the speakers and pulse through your veins whilst you stop paying attention to what you were previously doing.

Nevertheless, I went on Twitter, 'followed' him, and immediately downloaded his EP (which he posted the link for). When looking at the EP cover, the first word that came to my mind was, "Aww". The portrayed strong bond between mother and child just reinforces the affectional musical direction of the album.

From the exquisite 'Something Beautiful', to the soulful 'Dear Simone', the EP evokes such bittersweet emotions, with 8 songs that pours such quality cohesion into the seams. I believe that Jacob Banks is one to look for in the future. The music scene in the UK could definitely use a break with dance-crazed songs, and get ready for a male version to Emeli Sande.

Stand-out Tune: 'Something Beautiful'
